I have been quite busy over the last few weeks meeting up with various colleagues, teachers and friends to discuss the things that I would like to do at Balance in 2018. Now, it might seem a little early to some of you, but for me to be planning that far ahead is something I always do: I already have a lot booked in with various courses, trips etc so I have to be super organised to get it all scheduled in.
Interestingly enough, I’m a firm believer in planning ahead. It doesn’t have to be the small details or the how, but the intentions need to be in place and I like to work 1-3 years ahead, and to be absolutely truthful, I have 10 year plans.
Now, I realise to some of you that might sound awful, dull even, but without plans we don’t achieve what we want……EVER!
If you don’t have any long term plans/intentions when something unexpected happens, and it always does, then we get knocked off course, sidetracked, and the end result is we live our lives reacting to what happens to us, which is all rather chaotic.
You see, many many years ago, I read a book called The Compound Effect, and it was one of those books that changes your life – if you let it! The premise was so simple – small and consistent – that I put it into action straight away and have been doing so every since.
A little example of what I did…. as I’m sure you all know I was a single parent for many years, and not only that, but I was also self employed, so you can imagine my beliefs around money and all the ‘what if’s’ that would go off in my head! So, following the theory in the book I set up 4 separate accounts, my current account, my freedom fund (long term saving), my emergency and my fun funds and without fail I paid a set amount into each one every month – note Without Fail
This was a HUGE step in changing my life as in a very short time I had gone from living month to month to having money put aside for when the washing machine broke, Joe needed yet another pair of shoes as he was having a growth spurt, Katy wanted to go on that school trip, I needed a night out with girl friends – the money was there, on top of that, my savings for the future were growing and my beliefs around money were changing (this is a biggy!). Yes, the first 6 months I found it hard to manage on less money in my current account but after that I didn’t notice the small amounts going out to their various accounts and over time I was even able to increase the amounts going out.
Simplicity and Consistency in action and getting the results.
Anyway, I digress somewhat, the point I was making is that I have applied that theory to every aspect of my life and it works a treat – hence my forward planning for next year and beyond 🙂
So, to get back to 2018 I wanted to give you a heads up on some of the things planned:
