I spent this Saturday with my friend and colleague Jane Thomas presenting to a group of her clients.
She does a similar thing to our Well-Being Wednesday that we’re launching: she offers her clients a whole range of different experiences to try out. I was thrilled with the response, we had 40 people attend my Mindset presentation.
Now, I know I’m probably a little biased, but, Pilates people are just lovely! We had a great morning, they were interactive, open, attentive, questioning and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Jane had also put on some very tasty treats, so we had time for a mingle and a chat afterwards.
So many people came up to me to say how much they had enjoyed it and how much they had learnt, so I asked them what was their big take away from the talk, and this is what they said:
Understanding that their deeply held beliefs were just stories, stories that they hadn’t chosen and stories that they could change: this made them feel that they could change things they weren’t happy with.
That the tools we use in Mindset are not about offering ‘solutions’ but about allowing you to press your pause button so that you can observe not react. Lots said that although they were aware that a lot of their responses were reactive, they weren’t able to stop, and having a ‘pause’ button would allow them a way to do that.
That mindset is about working on YOUR thoughts/beliefs and not about trying to change someone else’s. This one was huge: so many people said that they spent a lot of time trying to change how their partner, children, work colleagues etc thought/behaved instead of working on themselves.
That they had never really understood the importance on improving their mindset, and relating it to improving their bodies, like they do with Pilates, helped them realise why we need to do it.
That we are all so much happier when we stay out of other people’s business and focus on our own.
Finally, that they felt empowered and inspired 🙂
My big take away – it simply reinforced that I love my job!
I really do love being able to help people achieve healthier, happier lives by helping them improve their bodies and mind through movement and mindset!
Let’s make those changes in 2016!!!
