I know I have written before about time and how it is the single most important thing in your life, but I felt drawn to explore our feelings towards time more.
This week I saw a few things about time that made me think and I had a few conversations about time that made me think more deeply about why we take TIME for granted.
Each and every one of us is guilty of thinking we have time, we always think we have time and that makes us careless. We are careless with our time in so many ways.
We waste endless amounts of time doing things we actively dislike.
We spend years in jobs we despise.
We spend hours on end in front of a screen, TV, computer, phone.
We procrastinate and don’t get things done.
We waste time on worrying, worrying, worrying about things that might happen in the future, things that haven’t even happened.
We waste time worrying, worrying, worrying about things that happened in the past and we CANNOT change.
We spend time with people we don’t really like.
We put off doing the things we want until the time is right – it never is.
We think we will take that wonderful trip next year – what if next year never comes?
We don’t listen to those we love because we are too busy.
We don’t play with our children because there are so many things to be done.
We don’t use time to cook ourselves healthy food because we think we don’t have that time to spend on our health.
We don’t exercise as we think we don’t have the time.
We wish our time to pass fast so we can go on that holiday.
We think the present is too busy, we tell ourselves that now is not the right time, we don’t have the time, we don’t have the time to slow down, to stop, to pause, to be
and we do all of this because we think we have time!
Would we be so careless if Time was Money?
If the 86,400 seconds we have each day was £86,400?
If we had that amount to spend in one day and if we didn’t spend it it was gone – would we happily waste that money, would we throw it away or would we use it, for ourselves, for the people we love, for our communities to help create the life we desire?
Yet Time is so much more valuable than Money.
We can get more Money but we can never, ever get more time.
Time is priceless, it really is, and once you have lost it you can never get it back.
So, let’s use our time wisely, honour it, enjoy it, respect it and make it work for us.
Never put off something that you truly desire – time waits for no one, not even you.
