I am super excited that we will be able to offer a bone density scan at Balance Studio for ONE day only, on:
TUESDAY 23rd OCTOBER, 9.00am – 6.00pm
I already have a few clients who have Osteoporosis or Osteopenia and I think it is vitally important that we know about our bone health. On a personal note, now going through the menopause, I want to know if my bones are healthy or if I need to make a few changes to improve my bone health.
Do you know how healthy your bones are?
Are you at risk from osteoporosis?
A specialist ‘My Bone Health scan’ can diagnose even the early stages of osteoporosis and help you put it right.
What is Osteoporosis?
Many of us are at risk of osteoporosis, a condition where your bones become brittle or fragile and break easily. This can occur simply from living a sedentary lifestyle, eating the wrong foods and sitting at a desk. In fact 3 million people in the UK, both men and women, already have osteoporosis and many don’t know it. It can affect you at any age.
Who is at risk?
These risk factors will increase your likelihood of having osteoporosis:
• Female
• Cigarette smoking or heavy alcohol intake
• Small stature or underweight
• Malabsorption conditions such as Crohn’s or Coeliac disease
• No periods for over 6 months due to over-exercising/dieting
• Early menopause/hysterectomy before the age of 45
• Mother or father had a hip fracture
• Over 65
By diagnosing osteoporosis, or the pre-stages of it, as early as possible, you can take positive action to put it right. You can improve your own bone density and strength.
What is the scan?
My Bone Health will conduct a non-invasive, radiation-free, ultrasound scan and evaluation for the early diagnosis of osteoporosis or its pre-stages. Your results are available immediately and you are provided with advice and guidance to improve your bone health, including looking at diet and exercise. My Bone Health is run in partnership by a well-known orthopaedic surgeon and a renowned expert in targeted exercise for improving strength and bone density. You can be sure My Bone Health has a solid, professional pedigree.
Osteoscan UK Ltd will be doing the scans on a couch in the reformer room, so totally private. Karen from Osteoscan will be scanning your hips and lower back.
If you are diagnosed with osteoporosis for the first time, Osteoscan UK Ltd will provide you with a letter in addition to your bone health reports that alerts the GP of the results and makes recommendations regarding treatment according to NOGG (National Osteoporosis Guideline Group) and NICE guidance.
