Have you ever thought about what being ‘healthy’ actually means to you?

Do you consider yourself to be healthy?

Are you striving to be ‘healthier’ or do you feel you are at your optimum health?

What is your optimum ‘health’ – it ‘s probably different for each one of us.

So, to answer the question,  for me these are my 3 important points that makes me feel Healthy:

1. Exercise – now I know you’ll all be thinking, well.. she’s bound to say that, she couldn’t really say anything else :). Its true, however, for me I think its about being fit enough to do all the activities that you love. For me, this means being strong and supple enough to ski, cycle, walk in the hills, play with my grandchildren.  I do not want to be in a position where my body lets me down. I’m prepared to put in the hard work to maintain a level of fitness that suits my lifestyle – I want to be able to cycle from London to Paris, to do the Moonwalk, trek for 19 days to Everest Base Camp, walk all day in Derbyshire.

These things give me direction, a purpose and a fantastic feel good factor, thats what motivates me! So, what about YOU, what motivates you to exercise? What are you priorities in life? Are you happy with your level of fitness? If not, its time to try something new.  I’m bound to say Pilates, I love the fact that it’s a mind/body exercise and it makes me feel great, but, there are lots of things out there how about T’ai Chi, Yoga, Hot Yoga, its really about what suits you- isn’t it time you MADE the time to exercise!

2.  Nutrition – another bigger! One for me that has slowly evolved and is still evolving. I never really acknowledged how important nutrition was to your health – dumb I know, but, I naively thought I could exercise bad nutrition away!!! Wrong, wrong, wrong! Now, we’ve just had Christmas, so I’m sure for most of us (me included!), we’ve let our nutrition go…….and I know that I’ve started to suffer as a result. I don’t feel as healthy, I definitely don’t have as much energy, my sugar cravings have gone through the roof……not to mention the tightness of my jeans! I’m actually looking forward to eating  better, drinking less alcohol and lots more water.  Its the time of year where I like to do a detox and get back on track again.  If we’ve got any lingering chocs in the cupboard give them away or even throw them away and lets start making healthier choices again!
3.  Mindset – yep, another bigger! Taking care of your emotional wellbeing is so important, our lives are one continual journey of growth and development, we need this as humans, lets not forget that – embrace it.  One of the best and most successful ways to change your mindset is through meditation.  If you’ve not tried it, now’s the time, it doesn’t have to be an hour session, sometimes just 10mins is enough. Meditation helps you reduce stress and gives you an amazing amount of clarity. This last year I have really enjoyed my first experience of mediation and it is something that I will continue to do. So now is the time to enjoy being  YOU , do things that make you happy, that make you feel fulfilled and be the best that you can be. Don’t go through life lacking confidence, lacking belief in yourself, having low self -esteem – its easier to change these things than you think, remember one small achievable step at a time is the way forward 🙂

So, there are my 3 important points, they all need to be working for me to feel ‘Healthy” – What are yours??
