Don’t we all just love guarantees?? If someone is offering something, then we absolutely love it when they give us a guarantee. We want a guarantee, we need a guarantee, we expect a guarantee – in fact, we demand a guarantee!
We look at all those advertisements for younger looking skin – we buy the expensive cream and wait for those magical results. We join the gym, follow the programme and wait for that amazing body it guarantees. We buy the course, follow the rules and wait for all those lovely clients to come walking through the doors. We expect it all to work because, hey, we’ve read the guarantee and it works for 100s, maybe even 1000s of others, so why not us!
But if we are really honest, we know that nothing comes with a guarantee. Life doesn’t come with a guarantee (death yes, but certainly not life!).
Life is not about guarantees and if we insist on looking at it like that, we will end up disappointed with skin that doesn’t make us look 15 years younger, an improved body but not one that looks like the supermodel in the magazine, the clients do not flood through your open doors, they come but only because you do the work consistently ……..there really are no guarantees.
Is that something we should be upset about? Absolutely not, because life is something so much better – Life is an Experiment!
It’s about you trying all the things you want to do and seeing which ones work for you and having fun doing it.
But just like an experiment you have to start with the reality – the truth, not a story. If you’re looking for that guarantee all the time, it will keep you stuck, your mind is full of what ifs: ‘what if this doesn’t work?’, ‘what if I waste all that money?’, ‘what if…….’
So we end up not bothering as we convince ourselves that we are waiting for that ultimate guarantee that everything will work out.
If you never take a chance, a risk, an experiment, then you will remain exactly where you are right now.
So, ask yourself this “How is that working for me?”
A guarantee is just a way of you excusing yourself for not stepping up, for not trying anything different, for not taking that risk …….and that is fine as long as you’re happy being exactly where you are.
