What do I want from Life? Is this this right question to ask yourself??

As a Mind Body Coach, this is the all-time favourite question that I get asked – How do I achieve what I want out of life?

If it were simple to answer, well, we would all be getting exactly what we “want” out of life. We would all know what we wanted and how to go about getting it.

The first part – knowing what you actually want – takes time, honesty and patience to uncover.

When I ask people this, typical responses are:

  • To be happy
  • To have a great job that I love and pays me well
  • A nice home, car and to be able to afford holidays
  • To be slimmer
  • To be fit
  • To be healthy
  • To be a great parent
  • To have great sex and be with a fantastic partner
  • To be loved
  • To travel…….
    and so on.

We all want to feel good, live a happy life, great partner etc etc, that goes without saying, but that’s just the point, isn’t it? It’s so universal, it doesn’t really mean anything.

Finding out what you really want is a process, sorry no quick fix, it’s a process of you getting to know yourself better, it’s a process of looking inside not outside.

Now, I know that’s not what you want to hear, you’re reading this and you want me to give you some tips/help with finding out what YOU really want in life!

So, instead of tips, here are some things for you to think about:

We all want something – and we all want something enough!

There is a lot of stuff around at the moment that tells us if we want something enough, we will get it. Implying of course that those of us that are not getting what we want, simply don’t want it enough……if only it were that simple.

The simple fact is that if we do really want something, then we also have to want the cost of getting that thing too.

Yes, I know not necessarily what you want to hear, but true nonetheless.

If you want that toned, slim body then YOU have to be the one who is getting up early to go to the gym, sweating for hours at a time, you have to be the one who isn’t drinking alcohol or consuming sugar, is missing out on cakes, dealing with the cravings, the hunger pangs, the sore muscles – you have to want all this IF you really truly want the super toned, beach body.

If you want to run a successful business, then YOU have to want the working all hours, the possibility of repeated failures, the insecurity of an irregular income, your business being the first and last thing you think about every day, the risk taking, the responsibility, the time it takes to build a client base. You have to want all of that if you really truly want to run a successful business.

I’m not saying that I’m advocating the no pain, no gain mantra, or that you won’t enjoy the working out at the gym, the running your business, it’s just that if you really want these things, then you have to want the costs as well as the rewards, the process as well as the results.

Interesting, isn’t it – if we find ourselves wanting and wanting the same thing year after year but never achieving it, then maybe what you think you want isn’t actually what you want, maybe it’s just a fantasy??

It’s a process, a journey, whatever you would like to call it, but if you don’t know what you really truly want out of life, you are surviving and not thriving!

I know what I would rather be 🙂
