I wanted to share with you this week a quote from an American Philosopher called William James:

“Compared with what we ought to be, we are only half awake. We are making use of only a small part of our physical and mental resources. Stating the thing broadly, the human individual thus lives far within his limits. He possesses powers of various sorts which he habitually fails to use.”

I happen to agree, I don’t think we even come close to using all our capacities in life.

Our bodies are truly amazing, if we treat them well, nourish them with good food, plenty of water and exercise…. they will serve us well for many, many years.

Surely, we must prioritise ourselves, that means spending money taking care of ourselves, whether that’s buying the best food you can afford, or staying away from as much of the processed food as possible, just giving your body what it needs and deserves most of the time.

As most of you know, I have been teaching Pilates full time for over 15 years now, and still have quite a lot of my original clients with me! Whenever I run a beginners class, it always surprises me at just how little the ‘average’ person can cope with – whatever their age!

It makes me realise just how wonderfully my clients are looking after their bodies, and how much they can still do :).  I feel a great sense of pride that some of my ‘older’ clients are so much more physically able than so many younger people out there.

Consistency really does pay off! Coming every week for years will without any doubt ensure that you have a far happier, more active life…..and surely that’s what we all want?!

Looking after your body is vital, but equally as important is looking after your mind. How many of us actually do that?  If we want to lead happy lives, we need to ensure that we nourish our minds as much as our bodies.  Yes, learning about Mindset is the first step along your journey, but the only thing that actually makes a difference is applying what you have learnt!

We are all a bit guilty of wanting a quick fix, an instant solution to our problems, but the reality is that that may well work for a day, even a week, but the quick fix doesn’t create sustainable change in your lives.

The only way to create sustainable changes is to do the ‘work’ consistently: you cannot expect to attain a fitter, leaner more toned & flexible body by attending just one of our Pilates classes, neither should you expect to be able to change your Mindset by reading a book, attending one talk, you need to do the ‘work’.  Now, if you’re anything like me, I say ‘work’ but actually it’s fun, inspiring and incredibly rewarding to be able to first discover the things that are holding you back from really achieving the life you want, and secondly then being able to do something about it – you can’t really call that work!
If you don’t want to be doing the same things, if you don’t want to be achieving the same things next year as you have this year, then you have to do something different, take that leap and  join my next Mindset course starting in January.

Yes, YOU can unlock your potential, you can do more, be more and have more – it’s all in your hands 🙂
