Water flows, water moves, flowing water can be incredibly powerful, we can harness its power, water always finds a way forward, constantly moving.  If we have a small crack in our roof, we know water will find its way in, water likes to flow.

But, what happens to water when it doesn’t flow, when it stays still, when it goes nowhere……it very quickly becomes Stagnant!

When out in the countryside, we all know not to drink from still water, we know that it quickly becomes stale, stagnant and even poisonous to us.

Well, that’s what happens to our Bodies and Minds……we don’t like to be still.

If we spend hours not moving, we stiffen up, our muscles get sore, our backs ache from sitting down for so long, our necks ache from straining forward in the same position, some of our muscles switch off, others overwork and become fatigued.  The result is always the same: our Bodies do not like being still, we are designed to move, to flow.  Movement is supposed to be easy, natural, graceful, rhythmic.

Next time you feel pain in your Body, think have you been treating it well, have you been moving, bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, stretching, moving in all planes , all directions, all the time.

You only have to look at little children, they don’t stay still, they move, they flow, they don’t allow their bodies to be still for long periods of time.

So, next time you get tempted to sit at your desk for hours on the trot, or lie on the sofa all night, make a decision to move, stretch, twist and bend, whether sitting on your chair, or better still, stand up and move! Don’t let your Body become Stagnant! What about our Minds, when was the last time you learnt something new? Went to see something at the theatre you wouldn’t normally see, watched some sport, went to a concert, visited a new place, took a new course, tried a new class, learnt a new language…….

Our Minds are just like our Bodies, if we don’t change things up, they will become stagnant.

Water is at its best flowing…..so are WE 🙂
