I can’t tell you how many people mentioned the new blood test to me this week, the blood test that will tell us how old we are!
Some of you thought it was dreadful, you simply wouldn’t want to know, others thought it was a great idea and welcomed it!
My first reaction was what a great idea – ask yourself why would you want to hide from that information? Are you fearful that the age you get might be higher than your actual age?
But, what if it was…..wouldn’t that be the incentive you would need to start to do something about, to look at how you live your life and what areas you could improve on? Rather than viewing it as potentially scary, see it as a way of helping to show you whether or not you are on the right path – a positive rather than a negative – Perspective!
Knowledge is powerful and I would rather know so that I could take action if needed.
My second thought was I’m not sure why so many of you were worrying – after all you already look after your Body and Mind, you come to our lovely Pilates classes once a week, lots of you attend Masterclasses, and various workshops that we have run on ‘Healthy Living’ – you will all be fine! You are all already action takers, you are taking responsibility and looking after your most precious commodity – YOU!
So why be fearful?!
My third and final thought on the subject was that Joseph Pilates famously said that you are as Old as your Spine!
This makes perfect sense – if your spine is rigid and stiff you will feel old, your movement will be very restricted, what you can actually do will be limited and you will eventually be in pain. However, if your spine is supple and mobile, you will feel young, be able to move with ease and be pain free, do all the activities you want to do without any thought.
To keep your spine supple and mobile, you have to work through Rotation, Flexion, Extention and Lateral Flexion…..guess what, we do all that at Pilates!
Pilates keeps you young and we don’t need a blood test to tell us that 🙂
