I had a really interesting conversation with my grandson when I took him swimming last week.
I take him to his swimming lesson and then afterwards we swim together and he loves to show me what he has learnt. When he started out he was fearful that he would never learn to swim properly, he was really quite nervous, so we’ve worked at making it fun for him and he is now Excellent.
So, this is what I was telling him last week, that he was Excellent at front crawl. He wasn’t convinced, because in his mind, Excellent means perfect, and he certainly doesn’t feel perfect at swimming.
But, that is not what Excellent means……….Excellent doesn’t mean perfect, far from it. Excellent, which comes from the Latin ‘to surpass’, means just that, to go beyond (where you were before).
Now, there are no rules by how much you need to have gone beyond, as long as you have.
So, as he had improved, got better, gone beyond where he was last week, he was simply Excellent 🙂
Why not apply that to your every day life and start acknowledging when you are being Excellent.
If you achieve Pilates stance with straighter legs than last week, you are being Excellent
If you do one more Ab Prep than last time, you are being Excellent
If you do a deeper Squat than last week, you are being Excellent
If you walk that extra 100 steps compared to yesterday, you are being Excellent
If you gain an extra client, you are being Excellent
If you tick off one more thing on your to do list, you are being Excellent
If you save an extra £1, £10, £100 pounds in your savings account, you are being Excellent
I’m sure you get the idea
Don’t you think it’s time to recognise how Excellent we are all being, and doesn’t that just make you feel great 🙂
A little note on being Perfect, and I’ve done 2 newsletters on this one before, but Perfect is the killjoy, perfect means to complete or finish, and as most things are never completed or finished we can never be Perfect.
Perfect stops you in your tracks, it stops you even starting things for fear of them not being Perfect(!)
So, let’s drop the Perfect and stay with Excellent!
We are all Excellent 🙂
Today I am going to be Excellent at delivering my ‘Date with Philippa’ Mindset Workshop 🙂
What are YOU going to be Excellent at?
