Firstly, let me explain a little……
My philosophy, my ethos, everything we do at Balance is to inspire people to lead happier, healthier lives. We believe in helping people to be their absolute best that they can be in both their Mind and Body.
You all know that I am passionate about Pilates – I think that goes without saying! My second passion is Mindset – I think that comes through quite strongly in my weekly newsletter also!
Pilates as a form of exercise has huge benefits for our bodies………but it doesn’t end there, Pilates also has huge benefits for our ‘minds’
Pilates is a mind/body exercise but what exactly does that mean?
It means that during the hour you spend in your Pilates class, you are totally focusing on you, your breathing, your alignment, your movement, how your body feels, where you feel restriction, where things feel easier, how strong you are feeling, how flexible you are feeling – you are in the present, being in the moment! That means no ‘chatter’ going on in your head, no time to worry, no stress….Pilates is not Pilates unless the mind and body are working together, hence its called a mind/body exercise.
The two are inextricably linked!
That is why without hesitation I say to clients “I guarantee you will leave our Pilates class feeling happier than when you walked in”
Being in the present is one easy way to increase your Happiness levels!
Now, guess what recent research is showing??
The key to happiness is not money, relationship, job…..but Mindset, the way YOU choose to perceive these things!
The happiest people have been found to be the ones who have what is considered to be a ‘growth mindset’ or what I call Free Nature.
That means they are constantly looking for ways to improve themselves, they take the time to do a mind/body activity like Pilates, they don’t limit themselves with the belief that they can’t do this or that, they simply strive to improve their skills so that they can!
The happiest people believe that they can change their mindset, that they do have the ability to change, that it is firmly within their power to make the changes and therefore they perceive what they can achieve as limitless.
On the other hand, the unhappiest people have what we call a ‘fixed mindset’ or Bound Nature, they see that happiness, success and potential are pre- determined. They feel it is the way they are, their personality, their genes, its just the way their life is!
They firmly believe, that they cannot change their mindset, they are full of limiting self beliefs and feel powerless to make any changes.
So, which one are you?
For a lot of us, we struggle with the growth mindset, our heads are so full of the ‘stories’ we carry around with us that make it hard to dismiss our self limiting beliefs.
BUT, you can start to make changes, start by putting into practice the top tips for Happiness in last week’s newsletter, start to have more Awareness of when your head is full of ‘chatter’, particularly negative ‘chatter’, Accept that it is within your control to do something about it, be Accountable for making changes in your life to create a happier, healthier life that we all want and finally notice how your life, your mindset starts to Adapt to these changes and how slowly but surely you live that life we all deserve!
It’s called the “4 A’s”
It’s the first part of the journey towards a growth Mindset that will lead you down a much happier road 🙂
I’m thrilled to be able to announce that I am now a Mindset Performance Specialist!
