Yesterday I was reading a thought provoking article….now I realise that I was supposed to be doing my accounts…..but you can only do so much before the mind wanders onto more pleasant things!

Anyway, back to the point. It started me thinking how we are all so obsessed with having the latest, most up to date, wonderfully designed little (or sometimes not so little) gadgets. The pleasure we get from owning one of these little gems. It gives us a real buzz…..but really how long does that feeling last? It’s not long before we have to move on to the next gadget and the next one.

I have a friend, who in the time I’ve had my trusty and homely kitchen (read old and shabby, not even shabby chic!), who has had 3, yes 3, kitchens over 15 years – imagine the effort, planning, design, time that went into that!

Makes you think doesn’t it, that if we put half as much energy into ‘designing the life’ we actually want to live that we did into ‘shiny stuff”, how much happier we all would be!

Now, I admit to loving the latest greatest gadget too, I think we all suffer from ‘shiny object syndrome’ but on a serious note, I made a decision years ago that as my children were growing up I was going to give them and myself (If I’m happy, everyone’s happy newsletter!) every possible experience I could, adventures, holidays, trips, TIME, and the shiny stuff would have to be a little duller and last a little longer!

So, now when they come home, what do we talk about, laugh about, reminisce over – yep the ‘design’ we chose for our lives’……….the things we did together, the fun, the laughter, the silliness, the messing up, the ‘stuff’ we did not the ‘stuff’ we had.

How you want to live your life is entirely your choice, we all appreciate different things…but, the important thing is to have a plan of what you want your life to be and most importantly start to take those steps towards creating the life you want to have.

So, make that step, it doesn’t always come easily but the very least you owe yourself is to have a ‘Design for Life’
